According to the recent report by UNAIDS (United Nations Agency on AIDS), India has seen dramatic decrease in AIDS burden from last 7 years. Reduced HIV burden from 2010 to 2017 is shown in table below: 2010 2017 New HIV infections 1.2 lakh 88 thousand Deaths due to HIV infections 1.6 lakh 69 thousand People Living with HIV 23 lakhs 21 lakhs Globally, decrease in infection rate is only 18% against the aim of 75%. However, different treatment options, better preventive measures and antiretroviral therapy has enabled the death toll to decrease by 34%.
