Hypothyroidism — before Elective / Emergency surgery — Under Treatment / Not Under Treatment. What should we do proceed/Stop? A] Guidelines are Hypothyroidism not previously diagnosed—. before any elective surgery and postpone Surgery for weeks. But many people are giving Thyroxine tablet 100-200 mcg bd For 2-3 days — Testing again and proceeding for surgery. In fear of losing a case in private practice, they are doing this many times, even for high-risk cases. Actually, This is suggested only for Emergency cases.
Kindly comment on this practice. B] Hypothyroidism under treatment — Adequate/ Inadequate. Adequately treated — No problem. Continue same treatment. Inadequately treated — wait for 4-6 weeks for Elective Surgery. Kindly share your experience in Practice— in these scenarios with reasonable conclusions.
