Maharashtra Medical Council expresses its displeasure over the appointment of an Ayurveda practitioner as its registrar. The medical fraternity is up-in arms against the appointment of an Ayurveda practitioner as the registrar of Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC), the quasi-judicial body of doctors that serves as an ethical watchdog, grants registrations and looks into cases of medical negligence. Doctors believe that the move is an outright attempt of the ruling party to appoint "stooges" in the medical body like they have at other major institutes in India.
The decision was revealed on Tuesday when an associate professor with an Ayurveda College and also the registrar of state's Ayurveda council, took charge at the MMC.
