Leprosy, caused by Mycobacterium leprae , is a chronic infectious disease. Several studies have highlighted that chemotherapy with present-day multi-drug therapy effectively treats leprosy. However, the response is not optimum in a few patients, which is a matter of concern. This may be responsible for the morbidity/disabilities and the continued transmission of the disease. Is there a need for immunomodulatory agents in the management of leprosy?
