A good clinical examination is the backbone of any medical disorder. However, at present, due to recent advances in medical techniques and modern instruments, maybe clinicians may not be doing a clinical examination to the perfection in ophthalmology. In my clinical experience of more than 40 years, I feel a good clinical examination is very important. I can give few examples to support my statement If a patient comes with a history of the foreign body in one eye. First thing is a simple examination with a torch, see if the foreign body is on a corner,  then stain to see any corneal abrasion. We can use slit lamp also.

Here it is very important to evert the upper lid. Many times the foreign body is hidden in sulcus subtarsalis. It is a simple manual examination. In cases of squint by simple torch examination, we can see the alignment of eyes. We can do the cover-uncover test, see the…
