Oral health is very important for the general health of pregnant women and fetal health. Several research studies have confirmed that the lack of oral health care during pregnancy can have negative outcomes for both mothers and their newborns. These may range from preterm delivery and low birth weight to a higher risk of early caries among infants. Most of the pregnant women are not aware that poor oral health negatively affects oral, general health, and fetal health.
They believe that dental treatment during pregnancy negatively affects pregnancy and usually delay dental treatment. Therefore, dentists and gynecologists should educate pregnant women about dental problems and the importance of oral health.
