A division bench of the Madras High Court (HC) has approved that in-service doctors, who would avail maternity leave while serving in hilly or rural areas would be entitled for incentives marks in PG courses. A group of in-service candidates have filed a petition, to challenge a clause in the prospectus for admission to post graduate medical courses. The clause excludes the “period of maternity” and “earned leave” from the period of “continuous service” for awarding incentive marks. Petitioners claimed that, when they are eligible for maternity leave and other related benefits, the leave period would also be counted as service while pursuing PG courses.
