World Health Organization (WHO) praised India for launching one of the world’s largest vaccination campaign against measles, a major childhood killer disease, and congenital rubella syndrome (CRS), responsible for irreversible birth defects. The Union Health Ministry on Sunday launched the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign, with an aim to eradicate Rubella and Measles from India by targeting 41 crore children across the country. The campaign will start from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Goa.

Following this, the vaccine will be introduced in the Universal Immunisation Programme, replacing the currently given 2 doses of measles vaccine at 9-12 months and 16-24 months of age.
