India’s public health investment has nearly tripled over the past decade, rising from ₹1.30 lakh crore in 2013–14 to ₹3.85 lakh crore in 2022–23, according to the latest National Health Accounts (NHA) estimates. The growth reflects sustained efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, expand access to services, and improve health outcomes nationwide. Government Health Expenditure (GHE) increased to 1.43% of GDP, up from 1.15% in 2013–14, while its share of total health expenditure rose significantly from 28.6% to 43.7%. Per capita government health spending also increased nearly threefold, reaching ₹2,786.
