A multidisciplinary team of cardiac surgeons and urologic specialists at one of the hospitals in Bannerghatta Road, Bengaluru, has achieved a major global milestone by successfully performing the world’s first combined robot-assisted minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery (MIDCAB) and robotic radical prostatectomy in a single operative session. The unprecedented integrated procedure was carried out on a 56-year-old U.S.-based non-resident Indian who was simultaneously diagnosed with coronary artery disease and prostate cancer, two serious conditions that traditionally require separate high-risk surgeries under different admissions.
