Pancreatic cancer accounts for about 3% of new cancer diagnoses each year and is the fourth most frequent cause of cancer death in both men and women in the United States. In 2006, 33,730 people in the United States were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with an estimated five-year survival rate of 5%–the lowest of all cancers .Pancreatic cancer is known as a “silent disease” because identifiable symptoms are not usually present in its early stages.
The annual Pancreatic cancer load of India in2001 was approximately 14,230 patients: the estimated current figure is approximately 17,000 and is likely to increase in the near future.
