Abstract:  Not only the lipomas are rare tumors in the head and neck region their etiopathology is enigmatic. Lipomas represent only 0.5% to 5% of all benign tumors occurring in the mouth. The lipomas most frequently occur intraorally in the buccal mucosa, however, their occurrence in buccal vestibule in the mental nerve region is an exceptional rarity. Various types of lipomas have been described in literature based upon their histopathological appearance under the microscope, however, their clinical behavior and treatment modalities remain almost the same.

The histopathological appearance makes very little difference in the prognosis of lipomas, if at all.
