India ranked a lowly 154 th on Healthcare Access and Quality Index in 2017. In fact, recent world health statistics have indicated that India has the highest out of pocket private healthcare costs for families. Penetration of health insurance in India is low by international standards. With a socialist attitude of Government as well as reluctance by patients to pay out of pocket expense creates a difficult situation. What we, the doctors will face in future will be discussed.
