A case was referred for X-Ray Thoraco Lumbar Spine AP and Lat. views for the cases presented with back pain. The person who was in the Lab advised the patient to take 3 tablets of Bisacodyl and come next day for X-Ray. When he was asked why Bisacodyl is given, I was told abdominal gases may mask the bones and to remove that patient is given Bisacodyl. I don`t understand how Bisacodyl removes gases because it is a Laxative.

Secondly, I don`t feel the abdominal gases are the problem when Bone X-rays are taken. In emergency case. How can these technicians say they cannot take rays without patient taking the tablet. When the treatment can be started after getting the images why they are delaying X-rays. Please comment on this.
