A banned cancer drug has been sold illegally in Hyderabad State, including Government hospitals. The drug Osimertinib that has been banned by DCGI is also available online without taking any action against its sale. When asked about prescribing such banned drugs for cancer patients, A Hyderabad-based doctor replied that they use it when other drugs are not effective to help the cancer patient. He also added that not only for lung cancer but it can also be used for other cancers.
Since the quality, safety and efficacy of this drug are unknown, and it may cause harm to patients and public, it could be dangerous to use such medicines. Is it appropriate to use this drug if other drugs are not effective? If no, What do you suggest to regulate such inappropriate prescription?
