"LAMA" refers to patients leaving the hospital against medical advice. The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission stated in a recent case that in such cases, negligence cannot be attributed to Doctors. In one of the case, a handicapped female patient was made to several tests in the hospital after taking an ambulance at his own expense (not by the hospital) and admitting into the ICU. Her husband stated that there were no communication or ailment details provided thereafter, and allegedly the patient was pushed out of the hospital.
The hospital claimed that it found the patient to have a provisional diagnosis of dengue, and his condition worsened perhaps due to Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS).
