Leukaemias are malignant neoplasms of hematopoietic stem cells which are broadly classified as acute and chronic. About 50% of all leukemias show some form of ophthalmic manifestations and affect various ocular tissues. This article gives an overview of what all ocular tissues are affected by leukaemia. Leukaemia is a malignant disorder of hematopoietic stem cells characterized by uncontrolled proliferation of immature neoplastic leucocytes and their widespread infiltration of other organs and bloodstream.
This may lead to secondary hematologic complications such as erythropenia, thrombocytopenia and leukostasis.
