Researchers design a Low-Cost Prosthetic Knee giving similar results to that of a high-tech prosthetic to help Leg Amputees walk easily. There are about 5.5 people in India with locomotor disabilities currently. Most people face trauma due to road accidents out of these. On a daily basis there are about 150 patients at the organisations that creates these kind of low-cost limbs. In India low-cost limbs are not new. Though they do not provide accurate results as that of high-tech prosthetics.
By high-tech prosthesis , we mean with gyroscopes, accelerometers and hydraulics for providing better grip to patients with leg amputees. Such prosthetics may cost more than 30 Lakhs Rupees .
