Herpes zoster ophthalmics is relatively a common very painful ocular condition. It is due to reactivation of varicella-zoster virus affecting the ophthalmic division of trigeminal skin and mucosa. The condition is usually unilateral never crosses the midline one gets a unilateral periorbital edema before that there are skin eruptions on forehead and scalp.
Later the periorbital swelling becomes severe so that eye may be closed if the tip of the nose is involved with eruptions.
