Tongue cancer accounts for 30–50% of all oral cancers. The most common histologic type is squamous cell carcinoma. The best therapeutic approach for the primary tumor depends on the anatomic site. Most early-stage tongue cancers can be treated equally well with surgery or radiation therapy. In addition, most international guidelines recommend surgical resection as a primary modality over radiotherapy owing to the lower morbidity associated with primary surgical resection.
Larger cancers often require composite resections with defect reconstruction and adjuvant therapy with radiation and chemotherapy. To know the intricacies of the surgical management of tongue cancers, join expert oncosurgeon Dr. Shivam Pandya in a Docplexus Surgery Suite session on the “ Management of Early and Advanced Tongue Cancers ” on 5 t h November 2022, 5:00 PM IST onwards.
