Hemangioma, a benign vascular lesion, is prevalent in neonates (2-3%), infants under the age of one year (10-12%), as well as in premature babies weighing less than 1 kg (22-30%). The most commonly affected areas are lips, buccal mucosa, and tongue. The male to female occurrence ratio ranges from 1:3 to 1:5. Evidence suggests that matric metalloproteases and proangiogenic factors play an important role in the pathogenesis of this disease.

## Management ## Congenital hemangiomas may either be rapidly involuting or noninvoluting. The management is based on the stages of the disease. Systemic therapies, radiotherapy, cryotherapy, laser therapy, injection of sclerosing agents, selective embolization,  or sometimes surgical interventions are required.## Want to know more?
