Thalassemia is a common inherited, monogenic hemoglobin disorder associated with multi-systemic disease burden and intensive lifelong management. Managing thalassemia patients amidst the COVID-19 pandemic is a critical healthcare challenge, especially in developing countries. World Thalassemia Day is observed on 8th May every year to spread awareness about thalassemia and the struggles that patients with this life-long disorder have to go through. The Thalassemia International Federation (TIF) has formulated the below-mentioned guidelines for managing thalassemia amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
