The Medical Council Of India (MCI) board of authorities have urged the Union Ministry to allow non-doctors to sign pathology lab reports. This appeal has brought about a wave of mixed reactions across the medical fraternity. The MCI board of authorities have urged the Union Ministry to allow non-doctors with relevant medical backgrounds like MSc microbiology and biochemistry to issue and sign pathology lab reports. This recommendation is contrary to the present practice clarified by the MCI a few months ago stating that all diagnostic reports can only be signed by a qualified pathologist (MD in pathology).
