As per the recent notification by the Union Health Ministry , the Board of Governors (BoG) can appoint private and overseas doctors for teaching at government and private medical colleges . The new regulation is incorporated as a clause in the amendment named, Minimum Qualification for Teachers in Medical institutions regulations 2019. The said decision is taken to meet up the shortage of the teaching faculty in medical colleges, as well as to enhance the quality of medical education to MBBS and PG students.
But the health officials have also mentioned that the new amendment would not be applicable to all AIIMS institutions, PGI Chandigarh and JIPMER in Puducherry established under stand-alone Acts of Parliament.
