Qery- I work in SNCU dept in a govt sub divisional hospital where facility for ventilation is not available. Our Supdt. is very adamant about not referring any pt. to higher centre even if needed. He always insist on explaining the patient party about the grave condition of the baby and at the same time not allowing us to refer the baby, even if the party want to shift to higher centre. But supdt. would not give any such instruction ( not to refer) in writing.

Now, my question is Can I refuse to refer a critical baby even if party wants to do so. If I do not refer the baby as verbally instructed by supdt. and the baby die afterwards, would not I be responsible medico legally if party file cases. How to manage the situation by not offending supdt. as well as managing the party. Answer - This is a problem with some persons who believe that they are running govt and are fully responsible.…
