Glenohumeral compression, also commonly addressed as the shoulder impingement syndrome (SIS) is a combination of signs and symptoms, examination findings, and radiologic signs associated with the compression of the structures surrounding the glenohumeral joint. The compression leads to a persistent shoulder pain and dysfunction. This article focuses on the causative factors and management approach for SIS. Shoulder pain is the most common complaint to hear in our day to day practice and the second most prevalent condition, first one being the lower back pain.
The main risk factor for SIS is a repetitive activity at or above the shoulder level either at work or sports. Another risk factor could be the increasing age.
