Bringing disappointment to the entire medical fraternity across the country, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has rejected the Health and Services Personnel and Clinical Establishments draft Bill (prepared by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry) aimed at the central law for protection of doctors and hospitals, which has been long-standing demand of the medical fraternity. The proposed Bill was the prima facie to address the issue of the growing number of attacks on doctors in hospitals. It immediately gained importance after the brutal assault on junior doctors in West Bengal in June this year, which led to nationwide protests by the medical fraternity.
