Motor System Examination is a structured evaluation of motor function and neural integrity. It starts with an inspection of posture, muscle bulk, and any involuntary movements. Muscle tone is assessed by passive movement of the limbs. Muscle power is tested against resistance to detect weakness. Deep tendon and superficial reflexes are examined for symmetry and response. Coordination and skilled voluntary movements are assessed. Gait and balance may also be observed to complete the examination.
