Oral cancer, even though potentially preventable with known risk factors, is the 16th most common malignant neoplasm worldwide, with a yearly incidence of 355,000. More than 90% of oral cancers are squamous cell carcinomas, with maximum prevalence in developing countries, especially in South Asia. India alone has an incidence of 100,000 cases annually. Mouth self-examination (MSE) is crucial to reduce the prevalence of oral cancer. MSE, based on the "health belief model," promotes early detection, requiring thorough patient education, motivation, and follow-up.
