It is now more than 6 weeks since the American Heart Association (AHA) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) jointly released a new cholesterol guidelines on Nov. 10, 2018, and they were simultaneously published in two major society journals of cardiology; the AHA's journal Circulation and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
The guidelines include among other things, emphasis on lifestyle management, recommendations for more personalized risk assessments, new cholesterol-lowering drug options but even more importantly a subtle downgrading of the role of statins and at least a partial return towards goals for cholesterol-lowering therapy (rather than blindly giving high dose statins in all).
