In men, urinary tract infections occur less frequently but have similar causes and treatments as in women. It usually takes five to seven days for the infection to be cleared with antibiotics. Men with repeated or prolonged UTIs should consult a doctor to rule out an infection in their prostate gland (prostatitis).
