Neisseria gonorrhoeae, an organism responsible for the development of gonorrhea , has developed antimicrobial resistance (AMR) to all the monotherapy drugs. Empirical dual antimicrobial therapy comprising of azithromycin (1–2 g) and ceftriaxone (250–1000 mg) has been introduced in some regions. Currently, this treatment regimen appears effective.
Many of the lately developed antimicrobials warrant increased attention for probable treatment of gonorrhea. However, now is the correct time to recognize an appropriate therapy for gonorrhea.
