An advanced LASIK modality, wavelight plus, which incorporates a virtual 3D eye model generated from over 100,000 data points, has been proposed to deliver more precise refractive correction than existing flap-free techniques. To examine this potential advantage, a study has been evaluated visual accuracy, refractive outcomes, and astigmatism correction by comparing wavelight plus LASIK in one eye with SMILE Pro in the fellow eye involving 60 patients. The study found that eyes treated with wavelight plus LASIK demonstrated markedly superior outcomes, with 98% achieving improved vision compared with 82% of eyes treated with SMILE Pro.
Wavelight plus also more reliably reached the intended prescription target, produced fewer optical aberrations affecting night and contrast vision, and provided better astigmatism correction. In contrast, SMILE Pro achieved target correction in onlyβ¦
