The observance of newborn care week focuses on improving child care at birth and during the initial phase of life. This is because the first 28 days of a newborn’s life are crucial and with a high risk of mortality. According to the WHO, 7000 newborn deaths occur every day worldwide , out of which one-third of deaths occur on the same day of birth while the rest occur within the first week of life.
