The National Medical Commission (NMC) of India has released a new regulation under which a Unique Identification Number (UIN) will be issued to healthcare practitioners across the country. This number will be generated by the NMC Ethics Board and will grant the practitioner eligibility to practice medicine in India. Highlights of the new regulation A common national medical register will be maintained by the Ethics and Medical Registration Board under the NMC.

The register will have entries of registered medical practitioners received from all the States’ Medical Councils with all the necessary information needed about each registered medical practitioner.The issued license will be valid for a period of five years.
