Vitamin K-dependent anticoagulants such as warfarin are traditionally used to prevent thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients. However, they have an increased risk of bleeding and require dose adjustments and frequent monitoring. In the late 2000s, a new generation of oral anticoagulants, non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs), was developed. NOACs provide several advantages, including predictable pharmacokinetics, fewer dietary restrictions, and a lower risk of drug interactions. Their efficacy in preventing strokes and systemic embolism in AF patients is well-documented.

As a result, NOACs have become a preferred choice for many clinicians. To learn more about non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants, join renowned Intensive Care Specialist Dr. Pradeep Rangappa in our exclusive MasterSeries webinar on 1 st May 2024 , 3:00 PM IST onwards . Stay Tuned…
