Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is caused by increased abdominal pressure on the bladder due to sneezing, coughing, or laughing. SUI most commonly affects women due to age, childbirth, obesity, constipation, and anatomical factors. The anatomical factors include weakened urethral mucosa, dysfunctional urethral sphincter muscle, decreased urethral wall elasticity, and shortened functional urethra length. Surgical treatment is necessary for SUI when conservative treatments fail to manage the condition.
