The primary objectives of the second-line treatment for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) are prolonged survival, symptom relief and improvement in the quality of life of the patient. Targeted agents ( e.g. VEGF receptor 2 inhibitors) which can provide survival benefits in patients with progression after first-line treatment is the need of the hour. Although the second-line treatment modalities for NSCLC are increasing at an encouraging pace, their optimization remains an area of concern.
