It was very difficult time for a gynaecologist & for a patient before the invention of sonography the machine. Today with advanced USG machines, abnormal foetus can be diagnosed very early --( 02 to 04 month's pregnancy) & can be aborted easily without Much harm to the mother. I had one illiterate, villager patient with past h/o one male/live normally delivered Child of 2 yes. & heaving h/o 09 weeks pregnancy.
I did careful USG & found Increased Nuchal Translucency. Nuchal edema was more than 03 mm (Normal range 0 to 03 mm).I took the second opinion of my expert sonologist friend & His opinion was also same.I explained the patient & her relatives about abnormal findings & possibility of a genetically disordered foetus, may be down syndrome, may be cardiac disordered , may be vascular disordered.
