Oral leukoplakia (OL) is a disorder in which the thick and whitish lesions are induced on oral sites that can’t be characterized by any other definable lesions. Leukoplakia prevalence varies from 0.2-4.9% in Indian population depending on the tobacco habits. Also, a rate of malignant transformation of OL was observed to be varied from 0.13 to 34%. This article summarizes the features of OL that can lead the malignant transformation. There are two forms of leukoplakia i.e.

homogeneous and non-homogeneous. Homogenous: Characterized by a white lesion of uniform flat, thin appearance, smooth, wrinkled or corrugated surface throughout the lesion.
