BHUBANESWAR: Amid some recent attacks on doctors, including two murders, the state health and family welfare department has urged the home department to take enough steps to ensure safety and security of the medicos. In a letter to home secretary CJ Venugopal, health secretary Arti Ahuja requested police stations to act on any complaint of attack on doctors without delay. "The home department needs to issue directions to all police stations in the state to take immediate action when cases of attack on doctors come," she wrote.

Ahuja referred to instances of medical practitioners being targeted in the name of negligence in treatment and urged the home department to tell police to lodge FIR according to the provisions of the Orissa Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act, 2008.
