Post operative pain from thoracic surgery can be severe and, in the acute stage contributes to perioperative morbidity and mortality. On the other hand, patients may encounter a significant risk of chronic pain. The postoperative pain in these patients can be managed because there is no overall surgical or anesthetic "best practice". Here we have only discussed “Systemic and parenteral therapies” for postoperative pain management of thoracic patients.

Postoperative pain following thoracic surgery presents a significant challenge, and several factors complicate recovery and pain management for this population.
