Peri-implantitis is an inflammatory response to infections in soft tissues and bone loss around osseointegrated implants. These infections are typically caused by spirochetes and mobile gram-negative anaerobes or simple mechanical overload in case of implant failure. Changes in the gingiva coloration, bleeding and probing depth of peri-implant pockets, and gradual loss of bone height around the tooth are common symptoms of these infections. Therefore, Peri-implantitis management should be centered around detoxifying the implant surface and regenerating the alveolar bone.
