A recent research published in PLOS Medicine have shown that labor induction at 40 weeks reduces the risk of perinatal death if the women are nulliparous and aged 35 years or older. Pregnancy-associated complications are highly relevant to women above 35 years of age. In order to assess the risk and benefits related to elective induction, the researchers analyzed a dataset of more than 77000 delivery information. It was revealed that labor induction at 40 weeks was linked to significantly reduced in-hospital perinatal death (P=0.015) and meconium aspiration syndrome (P=0.002).
