AUTHORS’ PERSPECTIVE Doctors write articles in scientific journals for a variety of reasons. These range from statutory obligation to desire to share their findings to quest for recognition in the relevant community. For medical faculty it is either publish in an indexed journal or stagnate. This  lead to flooding of indexing agencies. The concept of impact factor, though theoretically sound, has lead to devising methods to increase the factor by editors. Earlier Index Medicus was the Bible for those who wanted information about articles published on various medical topics.

It was as comprehensive as it was exhaustive. Web has changed the picture drastically. Though, indexing helps in getting a label of high quality, it is not always so.
