I came across a 53 year old lady with a 15 year old history of mania -like symptoms who was treated with every pharmacological agent unsuccessfully. When I inherited her ,I automatically assumed that she was a case of resistant mania. Serendipitiously I got her tested for thyroid including antibodies. Her antibodies were totally haywire.
Treatment for Hashimoto's brought about a remission and she remains sympton free for more than a year now. Scanning the literature,I discovered a condition called Prasad's syndrome where Hashimoto's presents as mania. It may be commoner than we think. Have others had this experience?
