Nasolacrimal duct obstruction is common in over 5% of infants, affecting one or both the eyes. Of these, 90% infants with nasolacrimal duct obstruction recover during the first year of their life. However, in some cases, the obstruction may persist and manifest as a dacryocystitis – a rare complication. Endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) is the safest and most successful treatment of nasolacrimal duct obstruction with dacryocystitis as a complication.
