Majority of women experience emotional and physical symptoms during menstruation which are usually mild and considered to be physiological. However the symptoms and a minority distress a proportion of them are severely incapacitated. Premenstrual syndrome is a condition, which manifests as distressing physical, behavioral and psychological symptoms, in absence of organic or psychiatric disease, that recurs regularly in luteal phase of menstrual cycle and disappears or significantly regresses by the end of menstruation. The symptoms must be severe enough to interfere with day-to-day activity of women.
