I being a Surgeon, has to explain & counsel patient & relatives regarding about pros & cons of the surgery & outcome before operation. I always give options about various alternatives available for the disease, explain the risk of surgery & anaesthesia. But when we explain the risk then they start doubting about our efficiency & approach. They feel that we unnecessarily create a hype about operation. They get affraid of remote chances of risk explained to them.

But many a times I felt that when we say, " don't worry, nothing will happen ", relatives become confident & easily agree for the proposed treatment. My question is that should we keep the patient & relatives in euphoria to keep them preventing to run away. Or we should be point blank in explain the risk inspite of being loosing the number of patients?
