Venous thromboembolism (VTE) affects almost 5-15% of patients hospitalized for medical or surgical complaints. 1 Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is spreading rapidly around the globe since its first outbreak in Wuhan, China. In patients with COVID-19 infection, a potential link between mortality, D-dimer values, and a prothrombotic syndrome has been reported.
